The Mental Health Crisis In Veterinary Medicine: A Vet's Perspective
The people who care for our pets are struggling to care for themselves.
Recent studies conducted by the AVMA and CDC show that veterinarians are committing suicide in numbers over double that of the general population. Vets face an extremely high volume of death, debt, and disease over the course of their careers.
Dr. Carrie Turnbull of Staunton River Veterinary Clinic in Moneta, Virginia wanted to talk about the crisis in her profession. She saw the stress of the job affect other vets in Virginia, and heard countless stories of others taking their own lives. Out of respect for their tragic stories, she felt compelled to discuss her personal journey as a vet to spread awareness and support for the community.
